Cold email ft. multi million $$$ founder

šŸ§Šāœ‰ļø šŸ§Šāœ‰ļø

hey folks,

today’s cold email story is a good ā€˜ol full circle moment

the usual stuff that happens when you increase your luck surface area in this world

in short, I got Farza (multi million $ founder) as a judge for the cold email hackathon. And then threw the world’s biggest agent education event with him in Dubai.

oh and he’s way out of my league.

so how did I do it? read along

and, hey stay till the end. I have a gift for you

tomorrow, is a new year full of new opportunities. its also the best time to start prepping cold emails as folks get over the hangovers and go back to work

its the best time to get to your next opportunity

whether that’s your dream job, dream investor or just someone you look up to. so the gift is gonna get you to it! more info at the end

—

in summer 2024, i did this online program called buildspace which was run by Farza

it was valued at $100M at its peak

but, Farza shut the company down that season.
this was a bummer for me, i was trying really hard to be one of the teams invited to sf at the end of the program

i didn’t know what to do when he shut the company down. but i knew i had to get to sf. somehow.

so i cold emailed my uni to create a program for student founders, found investors. and somehow got to sf.

that’s where i created The Cold Email Hall of Fame which you’re now a part of!

fast forward a couple of years - i moved to Dubai for 4 months

and saw that farza was coming here too. So i cold emailed him

1 Cold Email that worked

ft. Farza

here’s a video from our event:

after this email, I’d followed up once, and he gave me his number

which led to him judging the cold email hackathon at a cafe with me

and then us hosting the world’s biggest agent edu event :)

all from this one cold email

2 Reasons Why

🧊 Strong Personalization

Most people send cold emails like "Hi, I'm John and I have an idea." or ā€œfollowing up from Linkedinā€.

I didn’t really do any of that corporate formality. I reminded him of our last touchpoint in a very human way. ā€œYou were working on freewrite and that Beatles iPod thing."

Specific memories > generic intros

🧊 Know your target person

Why would Farza do a random cold email hackahton? why would he help a random kid ut? He wouldn’t, unless that kid is driven, hungry and ambitious

So, I didn’t just say "your advice helped me." I showed my progress since his last advice (1500 subs). Which shows I actually took action - that’s the type of person he’d want to help out

3 More Cold Email Tips

🧊 Make the ask seem tiny - like I asked Farza to ā€œjust say a few words at the eventā€. Even though we ended up doing a 30 min long zoom call.

🧊 Make the subject line about them - "Can I pick your brain?" is boring. "The kid who made the cold emails website (+ left you a letter at F Inc)" makes Farza curious and puts him in the story.

🧊 Add a personal detail that has nothing to do with your ask - The "PS - Just saw you're flying to Dubai, I'm here too!" makes it feel like a real human connection, not a transaction. It's the difference between a cold email and a warm one.
